Custom URLs for your Google+ Profiles and Pages

Google recently introduced short URLS for their Google Plus, enabling their Google plus users and brands on their site to further customize their Google Plus profile pages. According to the announcement posted on Google+ by Google product manager Saurubh Sharma,

Your Google+ profile is a place for you to share your passions with the millions of people who come to Google each day. Whether you're a clothing brand showing off your latest fashions (google.com/+hugoboss), an athlete talking about the game (google.com/+davidbeckham), or an actor recalling a favorite role (google.com/+hughjackman), your Google+ profile helps you connect with the people who share your interests. Today we’re introducing custom URLs to make it even easier for people to find your profile on Google+.

A custom URL is a short, easy to remember web address that links directly to your profile or page on Google+. For instance, +TOYOTA  can now use google.com/+toyota to unveil their latest models, +Britney Spears  can share her upcoming appearances at google.com/+britneyspears, +Ubisoft  can share game trailers and videos at google.com/+assassinscreed, and +Delta  can help travellers find great deals at google.com/+delta.

Custom URLs will also be available to people and pages worldwide, so brands like Globo can point readers to google.com/+epoca, or any of their other Brazilian publications.

At first, we’re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals, so please stay tuned! Sharma advised.

We all know that short URLs very much helpful for search engine promotion as well as branding anywhere in this globe.

But If you  cannot wait for this, you can still get an custom short URLs for your personal as well as company Google+ Profile. You have to use an URL shortening service designed for Google Plus.

With it, you can get a personalized username for your profile in the form gplus.to/username. Note that this is a URL shortening service, which means it won't change your actual username on Google Plus. It will just provide you a redirect link, so when you enter gplus.to/username in your address bar, it won't directly open your profile. Rather, it will redirect you to your Google Plus profile.

Step 1. You need to fetch your Google Plus Profile ID first. Log into your Google Plus account, and click on the down arrow next to your profile image in the top-right region of your screen. Now click on View Profile. Now, you can see the ID in your address bar. (See the image below. The highlighted numbers make up the ID). Select your ID and copy it.

Step 2. Take this ID, and go to GPlus. In the Nickname, type in the username you want to use. Now paste your ID in the ID field, and click on Add. Be sure to type in only your ID numbers, and not any slashes (/) or any other part of your profile URL. Usernames can only be between 3-25 characters.

Once you click on Add, GPlus will show you whether all is okay or not. And that's it! Now you can type gplus.to/username into your address bar, and you will arrive at your own Google Plus profile. Take a look on above picture, I created gplus.to/SohelParvez for mine, and it's redirecting to my Google+ Profile!
