How to use Keywords in Website Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

A keyword is a term that is used to match with the query a person enters into a search engine to find specific information. Most people enter search phrases that consist of two to five words. Such phrases may be called search phrases, keyword phrases, query phrases, or just keywords.

SEO Keywords are the phrases in your web content that make it possible for people to find your Website via Search Engines. A website that is well optimized and offer relevant content might get higher search engine organic ranking.

These days, keyword optimization, due to keyword Spamming in the past, has been reduced in importance by search engine like Google. It’s purpose is only to tell search engine that, for example, this page is about XX, and you want them to include it in their search results when people search for XX and variations of XX. Lessening the importance of keywords is very different from disregarding them altogether though.

These are the issues you should consider during your Website SEO Process:

Where To Use Keywords

Title Tags in SERPs

Page Title: Title tags are the first places that the search engines will scan, and they are what appear as the actual link on the search engine results page. This is one of the most important places to emphasize your keywords, so make sure that the title tag on each page uses your most important keywords.

The title tag is also what your visitors will see in their web browsers, both in the title area and on tabs (if they’re using tabbed browsing). This is one of the areas where it’s tough to remember that SEO isn't just about pleasing the search engines – it’s also about pleasing your human visitors. They will use the title tag as a primary means of identification and navigation, which is why it needs to be written well-enough to please both parties – definitely not an easy feat.

Meta Description SERP Example

Meta Description: Within your header, there are a number of hidden META tags that only the search engines will see, and the META description tag is one of these hidden tags. On the search engine results page, you can generally see the META description tag by looking at the chunk of text underneath the link.

When writing your META description tag, it’s extremely important to be as concise as possible. The search engines generally only look at the first 150 characters of the description tag, so you only have a limited window in which to get your keywords in. Some search engines only use a part of it before taking some content from elsewhere on the page, so it’s even more important that you incorporate your keywords right up front in your description.

Uses Of The Keywords Meta Tag

META Keywords Tag: It’s still being debated how much weight the search engines give to the META keywords tag. In the early days of search, websites used to cram this tag full of any and all keywords or keyword combinations, in the hopes that the search engines would grasp onto something.

Most search engines learned from that and have changed how they weigh this tag in the search algorithm. Now it’s all about how the META keywords relate to the content on your page, which is why you need to use keywords that are relevant to the website in general and to the page in question specifically.

URL: It's a good idea to include keywords in your URL if they accurately describe the page contents. This is particularly important for businesses that do a lot of Blogging -- there's a huge opportunity to optimize your URLs on every post you publish, as every post lives on its own unique URL.

But beware: Search engines will penalize exact match domains that are keyword stuffed. So if you're thinking of starting up SaltLakeCityUtahBusinessName.com, think again. Keep it to BusinessName.com/SaltLakeCity-Utah, and you should be fine.

Headline Tag

Headline & Sub-Headline Tag: One of my best tips for improving your headline and sub-headline is to put any keywords or keywords variations you’re using in them up front. Doing so not only emphasizes what comes in the content below, but is useful for people scanning through your website quickly. Just try to keep it clear, concise, and relevant when doing so.

Keywords on Page Body

Page Content: Your page content is reason your website’s exists in the first place, and it’s the backbone of everything else on your website. It’s also what people link to (and links are another contributing factor to SEO) and what will draw people to your website in the first place.

One big consideration when writing your content is keyword density. While your best bet is to incorporate your targeted keyword phrase into your content as often as possible, you want to be careful not to overdo it. You’re not trying to sell your product to search engines; you’re trying to sell it to people, and if your content reads horribly, it can make a bad impression and most likely decrease the chance of making a conversion.

We’ve all seen websites where the keyword density is so high that the content reads horribly. As long as you’re simply aware of the phrase you’re targeting when you’re writing the content, you should end up with an adequate keyword density, probably within the 3-5% range. It’s alright if the targeted keywords stand out when you read through your content; after all, that’s what the person was searching for, and seeing it emphasized will reinforce that they have the information they need to make their decision.

Also remember the 1-to-1 rule: 1 page of content should be optimized for 1 keyword.

Site Navigation & In-Content Link Text: One of my reasons for avoiding using “click here” in link text is that it’s not SEO-friendly. Search engines use the strength of your links in their algorithm, and one of the things that determines link strength is whether the link text using specific keywords in it.

Use specific keywords in your link text helps them estimate how relevant that link is. It also helps build the relevancy of a particular page to a particular keyword phrase.

With all of the places on your website where links are, this doesn't apply solely to links within your page content. It applies to your main navigation links, to your breadcrumbs (as I mentioned already), to your footer links, etc. It’s all about association, and you want the search engines to associate certain keywords with your website in general and with specific pages on your website in particular.

Image Alt Tags

Image Tag: While these attributes were created for usability purposes, they don’t have to be used solely in those ways. They can also be used for SEO purposes in the sense that they’re another opportunity for you to incorporate additional text onto your page – text that contain the keywords you’re optimizing for.

I've written previously about using the ALT and TITLE attributes properly, but the important point is that you shouldn't write them with only the search engines in mind.

Keep them relevant to the element in question, and don’t use them to either duplicate content elsewhere on the page or to stuff them full of keywords to the point that they become completely unhelpful. Above all when it comes to them, think usability first, SEO second.

SEO Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs: Another common navigation tool on websites, breadcrumbs can help people pinpoint where they are on your website, as well as how to get back to where they were previously. As with any place you have words on your website, your breadcrumbs are another opportunity for you to incorporate your keywords. Just make sure that the breadcrumb links provide enough detail about what the pages are, without being overly length – 1 to 3 words at most.

Keywords in Embedded File Names

Embedded File Names: What I’m referring to as embedded file names are things like web pages, images, etc. These aren't necessarily things that people will see within your actual content – they’re just ways that you can get more keywords onto your page.

How you write file names should be a no-brainer, but it’s important that you not give them a generic or vague label. People will see the file name of a web page when they hover over a link, so using a file name that contains the keywords that the page is about is useful from usability purposes. (This is one of the main reasons why you should enable your permalinks in WordPress; with HTML websites, you have an easier time controlling the file names.

When it comes to images, why name your image files something vague such as “image01.jpg” instead of actual image file name like "SEO-Audit.jpg". when you can name it something that includes a keyword instead? It’s not something that someone will see or that will really make a difference, but it’s just another spot where you can get the keyword onto the page for the search engines to see it.

How to vary keyword usage

You can Target Multiple Keywords in One Page but, unless they’re very closely related, it can be difficult to do. The best approach is to have one main target keyword for each page, and then to also target keyword variations for same page. Keyword Variations will typically be the main keyword with one or more extra words (Service, Review, Buy, Cheap, etc.) can be added.

If the only difference between keywords is the order of the words, a minor word (a, an, in, on, to, etc.) or plurality (s, ies, etc.), then you can target those keywords on the same page as multiple main keyword targets, as Google Recognizes each of those variations as being nearly the same, and will generally return pretty much the same set of search results for each of the keywords.

How often to use keywords

The Page Title is by far the Most Important Place to add your main target keyword, so make sure, at the very least, you use your main keyword at the page title. If you need to make it part of a phrase, change the order of the words, or add a divider or two, so as to make it look more professional or to target more keywords, then that’s fine it won’t prevent your website ranking #1 in Google organic listing for that keyword.

In addition to using the Main Target Keyword in the Page Title try to use it, or a Variation of it, in at least 3 Places.
  • URL
  • H1 Tag
  • Body Content
  • Site Navigation Link Text
  • In-Content Link Text
  • Image Tag
  • Meta Description

Learn to Avoid Search Penalties

There are a couple of things you should also avoid when optimizing your Website for keywords, so be careful of the following Outdated SEO Practices some people still use.

Never Hide Keywords: This includes using the same color background as you do for the text, or hiding them off to the side using CSS tricks. While this isn't as easy to catch as other black hat tactics, today's more sophisticated search engines like Google can easily find instances of hidden keywords and it can result in serious search penalties.

Avoid Keyword Stuffing: Keyword stuffing means repeating keywords over and over again in the page or post, whether it's in titles, headings, descriptions, page content, URLs, or even at the bottom of a Website in very small text.

Basically, when it looks like keywords have been added unnecessarily onto a Website, it's probably keyword stuffed. Keyword stuffing is the oldest trick in the book when it comes to SEO and nowadays, search engines have been developed specifically to detect it. Not only does it look Spammy, but it's not approved by search engines and will result in penalties.

Don't Force Keywords: This isn't quite the same as stuffing a lot of keywords into a page or post. This is more about not forcing a keyword in even if it's just one if it doesn't belong, contextually speaking. If you can't figure out a place to put a keyword in a piece of content, it's often a sign the content isn't that well-aligned with what your personas need, anyway. Remember, SEO is not about incorporating as many keywords as possible. It’s much more about writing content topics relevant to your target audience.

Summery: It’s important to understand that keywords do still matter, and you should have some idea of the keywords you want to target. But increasingly, the way they’re interpreted by Google is organic and meaning-based, rather than simply taking the keywords you use at face value.

There are a lot of competing schools of thought when it comes to Organic SEO. What are some of your practical tips for incorporating keywords onto your website? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below!

How To Increase Organic Traffic From Google To Your Blog

search engines traffic statistic
Traffic is one of the most common issue every internet marketer and website owner concern about. If you are an website owner then you definitely want people easily find your website or blog on google rather than your competitors. And when they find and land on your website, depending on the traffic source we called it Direct, Organic, Paid and Referral Traffic.

What is Organic Traffic?

"Organic traffic" is traffic that comes to your blog as a result of search engine natural/free/unpaid search results. When a search engine like google returns its search results, it usually gives us two type results: organic and paid.

What is Organic Traffic

Organic search results are the webpage listings that most closely match the user’s search query based on relevance, also called “natural” search results. Paid results are basically advertisements — the Web site owners have paid to have their Website display for certain keywords, so these listings show up when someone runs a search query containing those keywords.

So when anyone click your webpage link from the search engine “natural” listings and reach your website, your website get a organic traffic.

How to Increase Organic Traffic From Google?

So, you want to get more organic traffic from google to your blog?

all you have to do is make sure your blog is displayed in google organic search results. Everyone wants to achieve higher google organic rankings, That’s because google organic search traffic is a proven.

The only trouble is, SEO keeps evolving, and no-one wants a penalty because of practicing the tricky methods. Google has been rolling out updates, ranging from Panda to Penguin to Google EMDs (exact match domain names) and just recently, the (PBN) Private Blog Network deindexing updates to prevent search spam.

So what I'll do to increase my blog google organic ranking?

I'm not going to suggest you to hire SEO Professionals, instead I would suggest you to do it yourself. Whether you’re an internet newbie or expert, the following actionable tips will increase your blog google organic ranking:

Focus on 'long tail' keywords

Long tail keywords are phrases which can be very specific to your business. For example, if you blog about office cleaning and janitorial service in Toronto, trying to target ‘cleaning Toronto’ will have high competition levels from other blog and achieving a high google organic rank for this keyword will be difficult.

Instead, aim for long tail keywords which relate to a specific product or service, e.g ‘office cleaning service in Toronto’. This is more likely to target searchers who are using specific search terms to find the exact service they need. These specific, or niche, long tail keywords tend to have low competition levels and are therefore easier for your blog to gain high google organic ranking.

Consistent and Fresh Content

If you’ve decided you want to dedicate time to your blog, then it’s vital to make sure you are able to do this consistently. If you have written 5 blogs then don’t publish these all at once; instead, stagger them regularly across several weeks. Google rewards content which is fresh and provides useful information for users. Plus, regular blogs/articles positions you as a credible resource and enhances the authority of your website.

Create Valuable Content

Content, is ultimately what every user is searching for – in some form or another. It may be articles, video, wikis, blogs, or other social media, but it is all content, and the Useful and informative of it you have, the bigger your slice of the Google pie will be. If you have More valuable and useful content than other sites for a given search keyword, which site do you think Google is going to send its organic traffic to if its desire is to give the user the best results and experience possible? to your website.

Google is always going to remain committed to providing the best experience that it possibly can for users, and if your content is deemed as ‘low quality’ by Google, then its ranking will drop as they will see it as being of no use to their search engine users.

The key to creating a great website is to create the best possible experience for your audience with original and high quality content. If people find your site useful and unique, they may come back again or link to your content on their own websites. This can help attract more people to your site over time.

Ethical Link Building

There has been a lot of chatter about link building following Google’s crackdown on the spammy links which previously dominated SEO. Keep in mind when you build links for your blog:

  • Avoid spamming
  • Aim to provide value to users of the sites you want a link from
  • Provide links to content relevant to the site you want a link from
  • Prevent stuffing the anchor text with lots of keywords
  • Avoiding being too promotional on Social platforms
  • Aim to contribute

There are many ways of finding ethical link sources around the web, here are a few different types of websites that could provide a link opportunity:

  • General directories
  • Local business directories
  • Bookmarking websites
  • Social websites
  • Reach out to related bloggers to write about your blog
  • Participating on related community
  • Answer question on Q&A sites like quora
  • Write Guest Posts

You can also assist in effective link building without the help of any other sites, simply by building internal links within your own website. If you are creating content about a specific aspect of your business, then link to the related page(s) within your site. This shows Google that what you are talking about is relevant and can encourage visitors further into your site.

Pay Respect to Google Webmaster Guideline

Some people think that they are clever enough to outsmart Google. But they’re not. Though underhand tactics can gain momentum for a site, this is always for the short term. Google inevitably finds out, punishes your site and you end up in a far worse position than you were in initially. Dedicating time and planning to a well thought out SEO Strategy will see your blog reap the rewards in the long term.

Optimize for your Blog Reader not for Search Engine

To do everything you possibly can to improve your website’s SEO, optimisation needs to be a priority when you create, edit or update any of your content. This starts by writing meta tags for each page of your site which gives search engines a clear description of the content on each page. The most important meta tags are meta titles and meta descriptions.

Optimize your blog post title
The title provides a short description for each page which tells the search engine about the content of the page – this should contain keywords as near as possible to the start of the descriptions.

Optimize your blog post description
Descriptions are for search engines too, but they also provide info to users about the content within each page. This is your chance to entice search engine users to click through and browse the services or products that you have to offer.

Try to Lower your Blog Bounce rate

As usability is at the heart of Google’s SEO practices, their algorithms monitor how long users stay on a site – widely known as a website’s ‘bounce rate’. A high bounce rate indicates that the page didn’t contain content that was relevant to the user, or that the page offered a poor user experience. You should continue to strive to keep your website's bounce rate as low as possible by identifying factors which could be causing your users to leave your site.

Make the most of Google's Keyword Planner

Google’s Keyword Planner provides a fantastic starting point for businesses that want to find out which keywords they should try to rank well for. Google’s Keyword Planner was originally created for their AdWords users, but you can still use it without paying to advertise.

Simply type in some key phrases that you think your customers will use to try to find you. Google’s Keyword Planner will deliver a list which details the number of monthly searches for these terms, as well as the competition level for each. This helps businesses to identify the most beneficial keywords to target throughout their content.

Find and Get involved in related online community

Providing useful content to your online customers cements your authority within your company’s niche. Invite your online audience to ask questions and provide feedback to gauge opinions about the products that you deliver. Not only does this give you an insight into what your potential customers think and what they want, it also gives your website authority within Google rankings as you are providing what users are looking for – useful content.

Get Social

Social signals are already impacting Google Organic Rankings and many industry experts believe that will only increase. In a study conducted by Searchmetrics, seven social media activities ranked in the top eight factors that contributed towards SEO – particularly Google Plus.

Constantly Test & Optimize

You’re not quite done yet! The web is a living medium, and it’s never too late to better optimize your blog and content. There is always room for improvement, so don't be afraid to test and make changes in your blog. You would be surprised at how the smallest change can often result in the biggest change.

That's a pretty good start covers tactics that can help you increase your blog google organic ranking and traffic. Hope you find this post helpful.

SEO Tips for One Page Websites

When it comes to One Page Websites SEO, make sure you're matching Strategy Appropriately. It's very hard to win with single page, and there's often a lot of domain authority value (if the site/page earns lots of links) that goes unspent, meaning you could have more pages/content that could rank well if you added them to the site.

Here are a few SEO Tips for One Page Websites you can use to increase your One Page Website organic ranking and attracting more organic traffic.

Single Page Website Content

Don't be scared of website size. Have as much content in there as needed to inform and provide regular call to action throughout. Make sure your One Page Website build with semantic markup and structures, Good semantic structure will help search engine like Google understand what your website really about.

Don't stuff your title and description with many keywords - I am guessing you're about a single product or service. Often people try to put too much in key areas, forgetting that Google will pick up miscellaneous other terms from the page and have it rank for it as well.

Great Content? no, you need Stunning Content.

Many experts talk about their “great content” that it reminds me of this line from The Incredibles:
EVERYONE CAN BE SUPER! AND WHEN EVERYONE'S SUPER....
NO ONE WILL BE.
If your site is going to be only one page, that one page needs to be amazing. Parallax scrolling and fancy CSS3 animation can make your single page websites look cool, but what makes yours different from all the others out there?

That’s not to say you have to get batty and put something unrelated to your business in your one page website. But it does show that people are attracted to things they’ve never seen before. Make sure your content is not only worth linking to, but also outstanding enough to be worth sharing.

Another thing to remember is that Google loves websites that stay updated, so make sure some of your content can be updated to stay fresh. Perhaps have a weekly news section that can be updated as needed. It'll help increase your One Page Website Google Organic Ranking.

Stick With Pagination

Google search robots have traditionally favored sites that were paginated, but in the case of one-page sites where multiple pages do not exist, you need to restructure the format by making sure that the site is not left without organized pagination.

This can be done by creating clear and discrete sections, each of which should be devoted to separate purposes.

By doing this you also automatically make site navigation a lot easier. Separating the content into distinct sections also gives you the opportunity of defining appropriate keywords for each section and thereafter optimizing it for that particular section.

Internal Anchor Link Optimization

Being a one-page website there are obviously no separate links or URLs to optimize, so you only have the anchor link to play around with. These links are employed to let users jump to different sections in the same web page. Now, these sections can only be optimized by optimizing the relevant anchor links.

For optimal results this can be done by using DIV ids as the anchor links, and then using the links on the navigation bar. For example, if there’s a section devoted to SEO on the one-page website, the DIV id may be named as <div id=“seo-services”>.

The anchor link can be created as <a href=“#seo-services”>SEO+Services</a>. By this simple operation, you have managed to generate a URL that is completely functional and search engine-friendly on the webpage.

Backlink is Most Important for One Page Website

Backlink is important for all sites, but it’s especially crucial for One Page Websites Ranking without an abundance of content. Since your usual on-page optimization may be limited, you’ll need to rely even more on backlinks to drive organic rankings and traffic.

The main advantage you have here is time. Take all the time you’d normally spend on blog posts and page content, and use it to build relationships that can eventually earn you quality links.

You’ve read plenty of online articles on different ways to earn links, so now’s your chance to actually go and try a few of the lesser-known tactics. These can be 404 link building, unlinked brand mentions, guest blogging, and earning backlinks in real life.

Keywords are Even More Important

Your keyword research has to be extremely thorough. You need to know exactly which keywords will get you the best results, and where to put them in your One Page Website.

You’ll probably have to pick and choose the very best keywords since you won’t be able to put them all in. This means making tough choices about what to leave out, so spend some extra time on your research.

Use H1 Tags in Every Sections

Single Page Websites are the rare exceptions to the “only have one H1” rule for entire website. In the case of a single-page website, all you need to keep in mind is to use an H1 tag separately for each section and leave the bot to sort out by itself all the information- this is not difficult as the H1 tag serves to indicate that the content following it is distinctive.

Break down content into Sections with inline anchor links

Even though it is One Page Website, it needs some sort of structure. The best way to do is to use DIVs and inline links.

Let’s look at how this can be obtain. First, give each section’s DIV an ID:

<div id="”Our-Service”"></div>

Then Simply link to it:

<a href=”# our-service”> Our Service </a>

When linking to a section of your site from another site, your HTML would look like this:

<a href=”http://www.w3storm.com/#our-service “>Our Service</a>

This is a great way to split up your content for easier reading and an friendly navigation. It will also help you direct visitors to specific portions of your page (for example, pricing or features) from other sites.

Track everything with Google Analytics

You should be doing this for all your sites, but you’re going to need to pay very closer attention with your Single Page Website.

In larger sites, if a page isn’t performing, you can still get traffic from other pages. With your tiny site, it’s crucial that you dig into your analytics and use the data to make changes.

Want Organic Ranking, you need to put in the Effort

Doing SEO for Single Page Sites isn’t so hard. It just take some extra work and a different way of thinking. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, just pay closer attention to the details. The things that you can get away with missing on your bigger sites can be huge misses for a small one, so make sure to get the little things right.

8 Ways to Protect Your Site From Google Panda Penalties

Google Panda Algorithm Update

Back in February of 2011, Google released a major update to their search results ranking algorithm known as Google Panda Update. The significant algorithm update aimed to lower the rank of "low-quality sites" or "thin sites", and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results.

As of today, Google released 28 panda algorithm update and last one (Panda 4.2) was July 17, 2015. you can read about all google algorithm update from Moz Google Algorithm Change History Timeline.

If you run a website or blog and want your site stick to the top of Google’s search result, Here’s My Tips to Protect Your Site From Google Panda Penalties. Alternatively, you can read Google's Quality Guidelines.

1. Write Fresh and Quality Content, and Don’t Worry About Length

If you read SEO guides (many of which are outdated SEO Guides), you may find ongoing debate about what will be content length for website pages and blog posts,.

What is The Ideal Content Length?

Actually there are no rules, except opinions. Some experts believe 300 to 500 words work best while others say content should be 1,000+ words.

In my opinion, Making content larger or shorter doesn’t guarantee success or failure; your content should be as long as it takes to deliver the message to your user, and no more.

I've seen many websites ranking higher with a very little amount of text. So don't worry too much about content length, make sure you write fresh and quality content regular basis.

2. Identify Redundant Content and Remove Them

Do a quick check on your website if there's duplicated and outdated information on it. This kinds of content can hurt your website ranking and lead to penalty, now might be a great time to clean it up.

Here are a few tips to Identify Redundant or Obsolete Content.

When review or write content, Ask yourself
  • Is this page/post necessary?
  • Does the information exist elsewhere?
  • Is it still current and relevant?
  • Does it do/say something?

3. Create Natural Link Profile

A natural link is a link obtained when a visitor shares your site on his or her own website, blog or other site. Let’s say the purpose of your site is to discuss cleaning services and you writing a article about "carpet cleaning service toronto".

You might link your article to some carpet cleaning mainstream media articles and internal link within your website. What you probably wouldn’t do, however, is link directly to competing sites trying to fill the cleaning niche. In a post-Panda online environment, this is a mistake.

Google Panda is all about Quality and Relevancy. Your site Quality and Relevancy ca be increase by linking to other related sites and content whether they’re your competitor or not. Your readers will surely appreciate it, and hence, The Google will too.

4. Target Natural Keywords

Outdated SEO advice may refer to something like this: select one or two keywords most closely related to page or post and insert them into the content as much as possible. This tactic was really good before panda update, But by panda algorithm Google see right through this, and treat it as a Unethical SEO Practice.

If you want to rank for a phrase like “clean my carpet,” you do not need to repeat the term exactly in your website, instead you may use "immaculate my carpet," which will google see similar to “clean my carpet,” If you use “immaculate” instead of “clean,” you'll have opportunity to rank for both phrases.

Why?

Because, Google’s algorithm uses Latent semantic indexing (LSI), which help Google identify patterns in the relationships between the terms and concepts contained in an unstructured collection of text. LSI is based on the principle that words that are used in the same contexts tend to have similar meanings.

5. Pay Attention to Website Navigation

It's under google's website design guideline. Improving your website navigation can have a positive impact on your site ranking. No amount of excellent content will be worth anything if your users can’t find their away around your site.

Navigation Best Practice:

  • Keep menus consistent and logically arranged.
  • Use internal linking whenever appropriate.
  • Verify there is text navigation, not JavaScript or Flash navigation that spiders can’t see.
  • Make sure you at least have text navigation on the bottom of the page if there aren’t any spiderable navigation links in the top navigation.

6. Avoid the Shortcut Methods

A lot of SEO experts claim that they have short cut method (Usually they keep it secret from their client) to rank higher on SERP.

Shortcut method may works on very short-term basis, But there’s a risk involved in tricky shortcut method.

What and Why?

The problem occurs when google's spider finish analyzing your website and find tricky method that you/your expert implemented to dodge google.

The only way to get rid of it and get your rank back is if you find your SEO expert did or doing any Shortcut Method on your website, abandon the expert and clean your content.

7. Stop Guest Posting

Don't get me wrong, I still believe that Guest posting is an effective and killer way to build authoritative links. But it shouldn’t be the one and only one strategy for your website marketing.

Remember what I already said about Natural Link Profile And a site with a too many links from one source (like guest posts) may penalize your website.

Also, There's a very real risk that Google will belittle links coming from guest posts. There’s too many people guest posting on an industrial-scale and it has footprint.

8. Anchor Text Diversity

The question of Anchor Text Diversity is heavily debated. In the past, experts believed that Anchor Text Optimized Backlinks is the key to dominate in the search rank. Again, Anchor Text Optimized Backlinks doesn’t look Natural Link Profile to user or Google.

Today Anchor Text Diversifying for link is a must. Since Google use Latent semantic indexing, you don't have to worry much about anchor text. Use mix of brand, domain, webmaster name, and keywords as anchor text more often.

Panda actually is less about backlinks, but more about quality and content. I deal with manual penalty removal for my client website, but this is another pair of shoes and has nothing to or with panda or penguin.

Did you receive a manual penalty message within the Google Webmaster Tools? Please leave a comment below.

PPC vs SEO : Which One is Better For My Business?

PPC vs SEO

I love SEO and PPC and have been using both Marketing strategies on a mixture of clients for over seven years, yet I'm often asked which one is better. Today I'm going to share their major differences, advantages and disadvantages with you.

Pay Per Click Advertising on Google, Bing and other sites is a quick and easy way to get listed on their search result for the keywords that are related to your website. Unfortunately, PPC is expensive and you can get traffic for free by achieving high rankings in the search engine organic search results.

In Search Engine Optimization, You will need to follow SEO best practices to get higher ranking and display more often in search engine result. It may take time to reach the top of the organic results, but the free, highly targeted traffic will probably prove to be well worth the investment.

What is the difference between PPC and SEO?

Position: Search Engine Optimization focuses on organic search results which are displayed in the main body of the search engine result pages. PPC listings are displayed as the ‘sponsored links’ at the top of the page or on the right hand side column.

Organic search results include all web pages which the search engine determines to be relevant to the user search query, while PPC reflects a targeted Search Engine Marketing Campaign and may show results only in a specific geographic area, time specific, user Operating systems, Carriers and few more.

Promotion Results: With an organic Search Engine Optimization campaign, a new website may take 1 to 18 months to show up on Search Engine Results. However, SEO results in continuous traffic over a longer period of time.

PPC can give an initial boost in traffic and is useful when launching a brand new website which is not yet appearing in organic results or you want create a buzz. However, when you stop the PPC campaign, the traffic stops immediately.

Perception: Organic Search Engine Optimization results in an Search Engine Marketing campaign are seen to be unbiased and have a higher level of credibility. SEO rankings are unpaid and based on the relevance of the webpage to the keyword but with PPC, the more you bid on a given keyword; the higher your advertisement is displayed for that search. The higher the position on the SERP page (Organic or PPC), the more trusted it is by searchers; the more likely it'll get clicks.

Price: With an SEO and/or a PPC campaign, there may be an initial set-up and ongoing fee if you engage an SEO or PPC specialist to create a campaign for your website. With an SEO campaign, there is no cost per individual click or visitor. However, with a PPC campaign, there is an ongoing cost per click or visitor – the greater your budget, the more traffic your website will receive.

But which approach is better for my business?

It depends on your needs and budget. If you want more traffic fast and are willing to pay for every visitor you get, then PPC might be right for you. But if you're operating on a small budget, it may make more sense to invest time in chasing high search engine rankings through SEO.

In the long term, SEO is better because it delivers long lasting results.

  • To achieve high rankings in the search engine organic search results, you have to develop SEO-friendly website, original content, and related authority Links that point to your site. It may take times to get high rankings with SEO. Fortunately, most websites keep their rankings for a long time.
  • In the long run, SEO is a much better value than PPC. If you have a business that is meant to stay, SEO is the way to go.

In the short term, PPC is better because you are forced to improve your website.

  • PPC is great because it provides instant results. You will get the first visitors minutes after the launch of your PPC campaign. Unfortunately, you won't get any more visitors as soon as you stop paying.
  • If you use paid search marketing, your website will get visitors because you pay for them.

The fact is that, if done correctly, both PPC and SEO can get you on the first page of the search engines for your targeted terms. However, each has its respective advantages and disadvantages as I mentioned above.

Are You Still Practicing Outdated SEO Tactics: 11 Tactics To Avoid!

11 Outdated SEO Tactics to Avoid

Last week, I wrote about SEO Best Practice in 2015 and On-Page SEO Checklist, So I think I should write about SEO tactics that don't work anymore. In this article, I'll tell you what outdated SEO tactics don't work and why.

Search Engine like Google always improving their search algorithm to give you the fresh, relevant and authentic result based on your query. Because they don't want to see you unhappy with their search result and don't want to see you switching to others search engine. To keep you happy and serve you the fresh, relevant and authentic result, they managed to develop state of the art search algorithm.

Search engine optimization has changed over the years, are you still practicing outdated and ineffective SEO strategies? outdated tactics you are using actually do nothing to improve our search engine rankings. So, Stop wasting your time on outdated SEO strategies.

To help you save your precious time and money, I'm going to discuss below outdated, ineffective, and obsolete SEO strategies you should stop using right now.

Tactic #1: Meta Descriptions

Some SEO Professional believe that Meta Descriptions help increase search engine ranking, and if you are on that side, my friend I would like remind you an old announcement from Google in back in 2009 that they won’t have an impact on the rankings of a web page algorithmically.

Why?

SEO Experts Opinion About Meta Descriptions

MOZ says…
“Meta description tags, while not important to search engine rankings, are extremely important in gaining user click-through from search engine result pages (SERPs). These short paragraphs are webmasters opportunity to advertise content to searchers and let them know exactly what the given page has with regard to what they’re looking for.”

Search Engine Land says…
“The meta description tag won’t help you rank, but it will often appear as the text snippet below your listing, so it should include the relevant keyword(s) and be written so as to encourage searchers to click on your listing.”

The next question you might ask is, Still it matter? Yes, it is important Because, your website meta description provides the best chance of search engines displaying the snippet of text right below your website title and URL. A Descriptive and well-written meta descriptions have been proven to lead to significantly improved click-through rates, And if it's missing Google will show text from your website content.

Tactic #2: Exact Match Keywords

Stuffing Exact Match Keywords in the website do not help increase your website search engine ranking. Keywords do not need to be repeated exactly throughout your website.

Tactic #3: Google Authorship

In June 2011, When Google introduced their Authorship Markup, SEO experts were thought that it's the future of search engine optimization, Today it is just another quest of Google.

Why?

August 28, 2014, John Mueller of Google Webmaster Tools announced in a Google+ post that Google will stop showing authorship results in Google Search, and will no longer be tracking data from content using rel=author markup.

Here's few recent article about google authorship published in Search Engine Land and written by SEO expert like Danny Sullivan.

The nutshell about Google Authorship is, it won't help your website rank higher in the search.

Tactic #4: More Pages Mean Higher Ranking

Some expert have the opinion that if your website has more pages, It'll get higher organic ranking. More pages with content are good, but creating content just to have more pages will not help you in SEO, You have to Make sure you are focusing your content on quality, not quantity. If your website doesn't have enough good content, It will not rank well and all of those pages you created will not help.

Tactic #5: SEO is All About Good Code, Content, and Links

About 5 years ago, SEO used to be all about Good Code, More Content and Getting Tons of Links. At Present, most of the websites that are ranking really well have a large social following and presence. People argue whether social media directly or indirectly affects search rankings, but either way it does have an impact.

Why?

Think about it, the more popular your website is on the social media, the more eye you will draw to it. The more people see it, the more traffic and backlinks your website will receive. Additionally, social media is a great way to send out content and get the traction you are looking for.

If you want better search engine rankings, don’t just focus on code, content and link building. Also, focus on building up your social profiles. Read how to manage your social media.

Tactic #5: Anchor Text Optimized Backlinks

This is a fat one, the question of anchor text is still heavily debated. In the past, experts found this to be important to dominate in the search rank. However, the search engine like google adjusted their algorithm to prevent manipulating their search result by this tactic.

Why?

Google launched the Penguin Update in April 2012 to better catch sites presume to be spamming its search results, in particular, those doing so by anchor text optimization or obtaining optimized links through networks designed primarily to boost Google rankings.

Tactic #6: Micro Sites Helps Your SEO

A lot of SEO Professional build Micro Sites (links from web 2.0 sites such as blogger, weebly, tumblr, squidoo or hub pages) these links can be good for website SEO, if you build them perfectly. For instance, a perfect web 2.0 link will have a well written engaging content, one that will help your audience out and engage them to visit your website.

Why?

A poorly written micro site will be filled with garbage content that has usually been created by a content spinner or a low paid outsourced worker. These contents don’t do anything to help your website SEO at all and usually considerate as duplicate content. Once search engine find out these duplicate content, means your rankings will drop significantly, don’t let anyone build these kind of content for your website.

Tactic #7: Higher Ranking Means More Traffic

There are some Statistics about search ranking placement and click-through rates, ranking is no longer a factor.

Avg Google CTR

Certainly, more people will see your listing, but it doesn’t mean you will get more clicks. I attribute this to user behavior and awareness of search engine optimization tricks.

Why?

Because today's internet surfer is intelligent than ever, They will be aware of the business, product or service but their knowledge and experience will force them to continue searching for the best business, service or most relevant product.

Advanced Web Ranking has a CTR Study Running, Where they present fresh data on the click-through-rate from Google’s organic search results. The data is taken from Google Webmaster Tools Search Queries reports from large accounts. Check it out here.

Tactic #8: Link Exchanges

This used to be a huge one.
If you handle link exchanges properly it can help, if you are doing it with websites in your niche and providing each other value. But there’s a risk involved in behind and interestingly this all works on very short-term basis! How? Let me Explain.

Why?

The problem occurs when you/your SEO “Experts” start exchanging links with Link Firm. This break Google Link schemes, and search engine webmaster guidelines. It may even increase your website ranking and traffic for a short amount of time, but just wait a few days, then your website ranking will drop down dramatically and your website will never rank again.

If you find that your SEO firm is doing link exchanges from websites that aren’t related to yours, get rid of them and find someone who knows what they are doing.

Tactic #9: Low Price Gig

Do you know, some SEO firms outsource all of their SEO work to Low Price Gig sites like Fiverr, SEOClerks, aDollarSEO, ETC. They purchase SEO services for only $1 - $5, and sadly they get exactly what they pay for.

Why?

This kind of sites are infamous in the SEO world and for good reason, they can't deliver ranking or related traffic within $5. They can only bring you bot traffic from China and North Korea.

If you find out that your SEO Specialist/firm is outsourcing your SEO work to these kinds of site, abandon them right now and find someone who works personally in his client project.

Tactic #10: PBN Means SEO Authority

This is another fat one, Another myth is believing that Private Blog Links that you/your SEO professional own link back to your main site will help build SEO Authority. Incorrect! That’s like voting for yourself in an election a hundred times — that still counts as one vote.

Why?

Because most of the PBN built with one hosting account and same domain registrar data, meaning all sites live on the same IP address and same registrant name/organization. The search engine like google's algorithm check C Class IP and has full access to the WHOIS database. So if you get 10 links from a PBN, google may count 10 links as only one link. And if you have 'too many' backlink pointing from one PBN, then google may think the blog network as a link firm and penalize your website.

Tactic #11: Guaranteed First Page Rankings

I see these all the time (I also get a lot of emails from SEO agencies), Many SEO Companies offering “Guaranteed top 10 search engine rankings” and “Guarantee first page Rankings”.

Do they really deliver what they offer?

Well, they might deliver the result for a couple of keywords, or it might be for ten or more keywords depending on the keyword competition. They can only deliver if the keyword competition is very low otherwise not.

Why?

No one can give you a number one or top 10 ranking guarantee because there is no such thing in SEO. Neither you nor they control search engine search result. I'd say, don’t listen to them, most of them are scammers and thieves. Be aware of this kind of agencies/companies.

Conclusion

If you’re new to SEO or a seasoned SEO professional, it’s important to understand the common outdated, ineffective, and obsolete SEO strategies.

These outdated methods will have you implementing ineffective SEO tactics or even tactics that can hurt your SEO efforts.

Understanding the latest SEO Tactics will improve your internet marketing strategy and increase user awareness when searching for information about your business, product or service.
